Hi.
This might be an obvious question, but it never stopped me before :p

I'm looking to upgrade my very old Cokin A-series set to the P-series. The P-series is rated down to 20mm lenses, but I do have designs on a 16-35mm lens sometime in the future. However, as I'm using a cropped sensor (7D), I'm assuming the effective focal length of 25-56mm would be OK with the P-series ?

Anyone see a flaw in this logic ?

Ta.

when i used cokin p on a 30d with canon 10-22. 16 - 35 full frame equivalent
i get vignetting . but zooming to around 14mm stopped it,
wide angle adapter maybe 12mm

Not using Cokin P but was that with the normal (3 slot) holder or their wide angle holder?

need to zoom to around 14mm with the 3 slot holder, i think it was only 12mm with the wide angle

With a P three slot on my 7D using a 15-85, it vignettes slightly at 15 unless I turn it 90 degrees, that would preclude using a graduated for the sky say at 15, but OK a couple of mm out, otherwise OK I do have a UV filter as well so may be OK if direct to the lens.

Thanks guys.

Seems like the 16-35mm on a crop sensor (25-56mm full sensor), is right on the limit. Hmm, food for thought.

I'm trying to buy lenses now that will be somewhat future proof (i.e. EF only in case I go full size sensor furthers down the line), so perhaps I should be thinking the same way about filters and holders ? Perhaps the Lee system ? Especially as the Lee circular polariser is half the price of the Cokin Z-series equivalent.

I would say look at the Lee system. The holder is very good quality, the wide angle adapter works a treat and you can also get Hi-Tech filters to fit (90% of the quality at 50% of the price)

When I used cokin P on my D50 with the 10-20, I never got any vignetting with the W/A holder. Granted, if you turn the filters through a large angle, then the holder does start to creep in, but as said, zooming in to about 12mm sorts this.
