Cokin P series holder rubber nipple missing?

Hi all,

I ordered the already mentioned filter holder online and it turned up earlier today. I've used these on other people's cameras and they've always had a little bit of rubber on the bottom of the back of the holder that joins on to the adapter ring, to stop the holder freely spinning on the ring. Or you can remove it and let it spin freely on autofocus lenses. As you can see here the one i received today doesn't have one

Would you say this is right or do i need to contact the sellers and get a replacement holder sent out?

i have a genuine ''Cokin - Made in France'' filter holder

looks nothing like that............

As best as i can tell it's a genuine one. It came with all i'd expect, the catalogue etc.

If you can post pics of your one that would be appreciated. I've got several camera shops local to me so i think i'll go in look at one in say Jessops where i'd hope they only stock genuine stuff and if it looks different then this one will be going back and i'll be getting a refund.

My non gneuine ones look nothing like it either. Persoanlly I find having the filter fixed irritating, and hacked the hell out of one of mine to get it to turn freely on a wide angle zoom lens I now don't have.

So without the rubber grip thing in there can you still turn the filter to say 45 degrees to line up an nd grad with the horizon without it moving around too much?

ok here's the back view

the adapter screws into the lens filter thread
the holder slides down onto the adapter...fits into the recessed circle
there is no rubber nipple thingy
the holder rotates quite freely on the adapter

the filters slide down the supports on the left and right edges
under a spring clip thingy
mine is a wide-angle holder so only has one filter slot

I think that's the wide-angle filter holder but i could be wrong. Does it only hold 1 filter at a time?

If it is the wide-angle holder it would explain the difference. I can't post more photos of what i have i'm not at home at the moment but i'll post mre when i get home.

Just a quick update, sorry for not doing so sooner. I contacted the seller and have returned the holder for them to "investigate the problem".

I'll let you know what they find.

The Cokin filter holder I got today looks like yours, Barks. I also don't have such a rubber nipple (that's why a was googling and stumbled across this thread ).

I wouldn't even have noticed that something might be missing, but this cokin brochure mentions a nipple that must be removed to allow for rotation of the filter holder:

As I use mine only for GND filters, I would have removed the nipple anyway, so I probably won't send it back. Even without such a rubber piece, the filter holder doesn't turn by itself (i.e., I can rotate it in any position and it stays there).

But I'm curious to hear what your seller finds out.
