Yes
By chance we had the local college evening class booklet dropped through the letter box today.

It had a free taster course for 6 weeks in photography and the then a follow on level 2 course afterwards for £140

Anyone done these type of courses before and are they worth it for a total novice?

I did a basic 30 week course last term. Quite enjoyed it. Looking to do a Level 3 course next term. Only one night a week for a few hours.

Depends if the course is aimed at total novices. :D

Give them a ring. I teach courses for beginners and improvers at a college near me and often get calls/emails from prospective students wanting more info.

The free one sounds good!

Mine was a bog standard one learning all basic stuff. Next course is more complex.

I did a year course at college - started off covering the basics - aperture/shutter speed/ISO relationships ... etc, the progressed to the actual photo scene and then developing and so on.

Pretty decent.

I did a BTEC 3 at my local college last year.
It was a lot about light, which I guess is obvious, but actually was great. I've been into photography since the mid 80's, and I still learned a huge amount.
Was it worth it? Yes, I think so. I'd like to go back and do the next level, but that would mean one day a week, which I can't commit to at the moment.

I finish a btec3 level this year. I was waiting for more practice then theory, but it still was great. Refresh memories about developing and enlarge things. I am no sure learn I something more or not, but definitely it was worth it.
