Coming late this month the Elonex 710EB. There's little solid info but it will have a 7" colour TFT, backlit!! with an ARM processor and supposedly 8hr battery life. It will play mp3s, supports video and image playback too. The blurb said it would be £99 but it looks more like it will be ~£130

So why get this?

Personally it has the same issues as the iPad and other tablets for reading. Having said that there is mention of an e-ink screen, but it won't have one at that price I bet...

Problem with e-ink is it can't be backlit (I think). I have an Ereader and love it but I'd like one I can read without having the lights on, not sure what issues you mean with the iPad unless it's battery life?

iPad's battery life is silly long, it takes a entire day of constant use to kill it flat, and i mean an entire day. I leave the house in the morning at 7, use it on the train for 90mins, an hour at lunch, and then 90mins on the way home, and then 5 hours at home and there are STILL juice left.

It being backlit... ;)

But yeah that's what is confusing me, it seems it's backlit, which isn't an issue in itself (with regards to whether it has an e ink screen) because there are a couple of e-ink screens coming out with backlights that can be turned on if required (have a look at the notion ink). Problem is if it has one of those screens it would't be that cheap...

Ah, what I regard as a plus then you regard as a minus, different strokes for different folks :)

What about a WiFi card for internet connectivity? Interested in this as it sounds good especially regarding the price!

Edit: Also it looks like HMV are already selling it! Shame that their dispatch estimate is 24-26 days and that they don't list any detailed specs for it. http://hmv.com/hmvweb/displayProductDetails.do?ctx=228;16;-1;-1;-1&sku=247897#anchorSynopsis

What web connectivity it has would be for book downloads only, it won't have a web browser. I see HMV have just pasted Elonex info without reading it (says price sub £100), but their price is £119, still that's the cheapest I've seen it yet.

Hey all, Just quick question- Does anyone have any idea if you can put an SD card into it? I mean HMV are selling it with a 4gb card but does anyone have any solid proof it does?

Thanks!

They wouldn't sell it with an SD card if it didn't take them Amy.

Thank you for answering!

Very true but on some websites they still have yet to let anyone know if they do take SD cards.

Any words on what file's you can put on- Like word docs, notebook docs, PDF's?

Thank you. :)

I think they should be available about the 17th, we should know then.
