I've never posted a photo here, so hello

I got this shot of a male common darter yesterday in RSPB Conwy

Is the crop too much? Too extreme? The bottom was out of focus an a bit pointless, and above the backgroud contrasted a lot to the light brown wood and therefore, in my eyes, was distracting

Any comments are welcome

It is a very nice macro shot, not sure about the background, is it on a table of some sort? Try and use a higher F number rather than the F4 used on this, this will give you greater depth of field in macro shots. I see you shot at ISO80 I would shoot at least ISO400 and use F11 to 16. There is some lovely details in the legs and on the head though. Well done a nice image, keep posting.

Thanks
I agree that the background is unnatural - it is the top suface of a wooden fence/banister
Unfortunatley regarding the apature my humble bridge can only manage a max of F8! Even at that the slower shutter speed would mean I would lose the sharpness and detail
The FZ45 is great for its price and does well in macro, but it does have its limits
