Hi guys,

I'm after a little compact for a project I have on.

Do any of the G series Canon's have f2.8 and a selectable focus point?

probably not quite in the same league as you're looking at but....

I got a Sony Cyber-Shot P200 a while back for about £40 off ebay - mint and all and find it a cracker. Same with my grans slightly older P150 (which actually has a nicer design).

7 mp model, cracking carl zeiss 2.8 lens (at the wide end) and is one of the fastest if not fastest cmpact about. Focas is lightening, as is firing the shutter and shot to shot time. Quality aluminium build, I thinks its a gem. For a 6 - 7 year old camera - not bad methinks! Might be worth a look. :)
 
Does the G series Canon's have selectable focus points? ie similar to the focus points that you see in the view finder of DSLR's?

Hi Rob

I've got the G10. It's a 6.1-30.5mm f/2.8- 4.5 and so at the shorter end is f/2.8.

I know nothing about how they calculate the focal length on compacts but they don't seem to correspond to DSLRs....:shrug:

After having a play around it does have selectable focus points. On the G10 they are pretty easy to get at via a dedicated button on the back (as opposed to having to dig deep in the menu).

I have to say, even as a Nikon man, that the G10 is cracking camera. The G10s controls overlap that of a DSLR to make it very intuitive to use. I usually take it as a back-up when I'm a long way from home.......just in case.
