Compact Advise

[The Chiller]

Hi All
My daughter will be 18 this Friday and she really would like a compact for when she goes to Uni. What would be the best one for £100-150.

I bought my other half a Nikon S8000 to take on holiday recently cost about £160.00, then my G9 went pear shaped and I ended up using it quite a lot and was very impressed, there is a newer model (S9100) but is outside your price bracket, but the S8000 has a 10x optical zoom and a really clear and well lit screen (one of the complaints of her earlier Pentax Optio) and the results were pretty good, only obvious problem is you have to get used to not holding the camera in the usual way if the pop up flash is in use.

If you want a good point and press everyone I know who has bought the Ixus 130 has been well impressed and you could pick up the bundle with a card and bag for around £115.
