Compact Advise

Another spec me thread...

The wife sold on here 600D to get a compact... yes going to lose IQ etc but she just wasn't using it as it was to big for the change bag along with the baby

So she ordered a Samsung WF820?? Maybe anyway was what she thought it was going to be... couldn't cope in doors without the flash.

Was thinking maybe a Nikon s9500? Needs to be good indoors and budget around £200ish...

I know nothing about compacts at all.. so any suggestions would be great!

Have you looked at any of the Fuji X cameras?
The X10 definitely falls within budget and you won't be giving much away in terms of image quality (two X10 images were in my ARPS panel)

I put 'Samsung WF820' into a Google image search to see what it looked like, and got loads of pictures of headphones. You would struggle to get any pictures, indoors or outdoors with that.

When you say it 'couldn't cope' indoors, what was the problem?

Also, how big do you want the camera to be, and how much do you want to spend?

Looking at the size of the Nikon you mentioned, the Fujifim F*** cameras have looked pretty good when I've had a play with them. The Panasonic TZ series have always been pretty good quality, and are particularly good at macro. I have a Canon S95 which I've been very happy with. I don't know if it is particularly good at indoor as I don't use it indoors very much. But the Canon S*** get good reviews. As do all the cameras I've mentioned though.

If I was getting a true compact I would get the Sony RX100, as it is very much like the S95 I have, but taken to another level. A big zoom isn't important to me, but at the time I bought the S95 it was RAW and image quality, and for me the S95 was the best choice at the time. I don't know how the Sony RX100 II improves on the original.
