I'm looking to buy a new compact camera to carry everywhere with me and would appreciate some feedback on my options. I want some degree of manual control so Panasonic are out and I also want a decent zoom.

I have currently narrowed my choice down to either the Canon SX-200 IS or the Samsung WB500. Any opinions would be appreciated.

I should really have mention that the zoom should b at least 7X which rules out the LX3. I looked at the TZ5 but that has no manual or even AE modes.

Not sure if these cameras are what you're looking for, but the highly respected DPReview has just published a test of six leading mega-zoom compacts here:
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/q209grouplongzoom/

If you search their reviews section, you will also find several more group reviews of compacts in various sectors and price points. There's gotta be something for you there.

I can't rate the g10 highly enough. Not sure if it's in the price range you're researching though :S

Go on, push the boat out....
