Hi everyone,

I'm looking to buy a small compact camera for my girlfriend, she has one already but she is complaining it's too slow, when she presses the shutter button it takes too long to focus and take the shot.
Now I was wondering what you guys recommend to take "instant" shots something between £200 and £400.
I have no idea of compacts myself, so please help.

Thanks a lot.

Other half has the TZ7, regularly recommended on here. Seems to be pretty responsive (though not DSLR like).

Dad has a Canon Ixus 95IS I think which is a fair bit smaller than the TZ7 if that matters?

A few years ago I got myself an Olympus MJU 790SW and have never looked back. Its a cracking little camera that is as advertised on TV (the kid throwing it down the garden etc). I mainly use it now for underwater shots as its waterproof to about 15 feet so its ideal for snorkelling.

Nice sharp pictures and easy to use.

My mrs as an Ixus 85 and she is over the moon with it, very quick startup, good results in most conditions and also has quite a decent video function.

Panasonic TZ7 all the way... Really is a superb camera. I have a TZ3 and recommended a TZ5 to a friend which they now love. If you can find a deal on a 'new' TZ5 it wont cost the earth either. The lens is lovely, brilliant Leica optics and picture quality is excellent!!

You really wouldnt regret getting any of the TZ range !

Thanks guys for your help we got the Panasonic Lumix TZ-65 I believe the only different between this and the TZ-7 is that the later records HD video, correct me if I'm wrong by the way.
The TZ-65 is a great camera, very sharp and responsive and the wide angle is very useful.

Thanks again for all your help

I have the TZ6 and i love it. You are right in that the TZ6 does not have HD video and the TZ7 does.

ixus is a great women's camera but for that money u could get yourself a semi DSLR with better shots but yes bigger camera
