as titled do i get a mk1 2 or 3 and would 4gig be suitable is there a make i should stay away from etc cheers shaun

I've been using this one from Kingston with my 5d Mk II with no problems at all with stills or video - very good value for money: 8GB for £14

Depends on what camera you have and what the write speed is. Obviously you want a card thats fast enough for your camera to write to to minimise any possible buffer filling.

Then there's getting the pics on and onto your PC.

Rob Galbraith usually has some decent speed tests on various makes, i.e. here's the one for the 50D

Personally I stick to Sandisk as a brand now as I've never had one fail, unlike some other cheaper brands.

just had a look at them and the reviews say they are a bit slow?? any thoughts and people are saying try the Sandisk Extreme III CompactFlash (CF) Memory Card - 4GB - 30 Mb/s Version for an extra few quid would this one be better? thanks

I normally stick to sandisk extreme III's too these days, the 60mb/s versions perform really well in all my cameras

I have a 40d so is the 30mb/s ok??

As I mentioned above, I've had no problems using the Kingston in my 5d Mk II for stills and video, so can't imagine you'd have any speed problems at all with a 40d. (currently have 3 of the 8GB)

Having said that, I have a couple of 4GB Sandisk Extreme III too, and no problems with them either.

one on order now thanks all for your help. just need a card reader now!!
