I have just purchased a Kingston Elite Pro CF x133 card for my 40D and on the first use it seems quite slow to empty the camera buffer after a burst of high speed shooting and then it seemed to take an age to download to my PC.

It is a 16GB card and my only other cards are 2GB so there was more photos on it that I normally download, but it still seemed very slow.

I don't think the card is a fake, it was purchased from 7dayshop.

What is the best way to correctly test the speed of the card.

I have used a utility (check flash) to check for errors and none were found but read and write speeds were around 2.6MB/s is that correct.

Sorry if this is a stupid question but searching the web just seems to add to my confusion.

That's a command-line program which may be off-putting, but ones with a GUI don't give completely trustworthy results. A Windows option is ATTO Disk Benchmark. Make sure you use a card reader/writer at least as fast as your cards. The Hama 35-in-1 is a recommended low-cost option.

133x should get you about 19 MB/s, but many products have unbalanced performance, with fast read and slow write speeds. A couple of years ago I returned a Pretec 233x card with an actual write speed of 66x and read speed of 205x.

Don't feel it's a stupid question. Manufacturers and sellers fob us off far too easily with these products.
 
Thanks for the info.

It looks like I have a problem with my internal card reader, when I used CrystalDiskMark I got the same results, but I then tried it with an external reader and got 19MB/s read speed.
