Compact for the F1?

HI guy's, just thinking out loud...I'm off to Spain for the GP next weekend and don't want to take my full kit again so thinking a compact with a good zoom but feel I could be wasting my ££
Would £3-400 get me something to do the job or am I looking at £5-600+ ....
Anyone recommend a compact or take me off the idea

I have a cracking compact that can be used fully manual with continuous shutter shooting but if you want the best from F1 take your DSLR and lenses, its not worth risking.
