Compact or Compact System advise please

hoping you good guy's n gals could help me decide which way to go .

the dilemma....got a biking holiday planned to Germany next year ,want to take a camera but essentially it's a Bike holiday . Had decided to buy a small rucksack for just one lens/body but each time I think about it I end wanting to take a couple of filters , tripod, macro lens just in case etc etc . Having seen some great shots from andy's X20 & talking to him about it, I started thinking that this type of camera maybe a good way to go . Not got a huge budget , was thinking up to £300 & probably sell/px the D90 to help fund it ,that would leave the D7000 as my DSLR with all the kit .So started looking round the web.....mind blowing !

Have narrowed down to 4 possibles as follows :

Fuji x20...over budget but I have seen how well it performs

Sony rx100...have seen some good info on here about this one , seems highly rated , more pixels than the Fuji so possibly better for printing ?

Lumix DMC GF6......looks good on paper , good price

But the one that really catch's my eye for some reason is Sony alpha Nex-3....really good price seems well spec'd

With the last 2 I belive you can get different lenses which isn't really in the plan ( have enough of that with D7000!

So , who has info . advice etc on any of the above ?

I'd also use it for bike trips out all year round.......pop it in the tailpack & still be able to concentrate on the riding rather than the lugging round mu rucksack full of all the things I may possible need which kinda detracts from the riding pleasure .

I think you have answer your own ?,as you say its mainly going to be a Bike holiday so i would take just an little compact that's suit you :)
 
I must admit I'd be a little inclined to go with Simon and take a compact with good zoom capability and image quality, that is also cheap enough that if it got damaged wouldn't break the bank. Something like a Panasonic TZ10. But there's no reason not to take a 'real' camera if you're keen and don't mind the extra weight.

Was just hoping someone out there had knowledge/experience of the mentioned models , aprticularly comparing the system compacts to straight compacts.
Want to shoot RAW so looks like I'll be going for the rx100 . Taking the dslr isn't really an option as it'll distract me from the riding as I'll be more cautious cos I'm carrying it

So now just gotta wait for the right deal to come up :)
 
Space will be at a premium on a bike - played that game! My recommendation would be an XF-1 from Fuji. I think Currys have them for £200 at the moment. Same guts as the X-20 but more compact. I have an X-20 and a couple of Nikon 1 series bodies/lenses as well as the XF-1 and the XF is what I would take in your situation.

RX100 for £359 at Cameraworld with free leather case is pretty good, about the best price I have seen it for apart from the amazon 1 day lightning deal thing a while ago when it was £329 (but no case): http://www.cameraworld.co.uk/sony-cyber-shot-dsc-rx100-with-free-sony-case-worth-70.html

That said if shirt pocket size camera is not a priority you can get a Nex 3N for even less (£270 with 16-50 pancake zoom):

As good as the RX100 is it's still no match for an APS-C size sensor, which is what the Nex is.

really wanted a camera to shoot RAW wich I don't think the XF-1 does & after much thought decided against another interchangable lens camera

Just purchased an X20 from the classifieds on here so all sorted :D

Hi Lynne, just checked the menu on my XF-1 and it can shoot raw. If you can spare the extra space the X-20 takes up (might mean leaving a sock behind!!!), it's a great choice, Enjoy the trip!
 
The only time the size difference is an issue for me is when I want a camera to shove in a shirt pocket - the XF fits but the X-20 doesn't. In the real world, they both produce excellent images (JPEGs) SOOC and need so little (if any) PP work that their raw capabilities aren't really needed, so the extra space more memory cards would take up can be used to shove the X-20' lens!!!
