Compact recommendations - specific needs

Hi all.

I have realised now I have come across to dSLR, I have no clue about compacts.

I have read with interest some of the other threads regarding compact recommendations but want to get the mother in law one and she has two main criteria -

- must be small as possible, although not stupid tiny, just small enough to fit in any handbag
- must be easy to point and shoot and produce good results with no knowledge (and no desire to learn much to my annoyance). Any fancy settings are wasted on her.

Looking at around £100 but could go higher if the camera warranted it.

Ive had some nice results from the nikon s3100 which you can pick up for £75 - £80 now, does what I need it to do (a little compact for social gatherings and parties, places I dont want to take the dslr to).

Small enough to put in a pocket, simple UI, and easy to use.
 
Very nice camera, I got this as a new compact a few months ago and really like it. Takes some very nice pictures. Plenty of modes which if you read into you can push it a bit further. Has some of the same components as the Nikon DSLRs.

£79 in Jessops at the mo (go via Quidco for cashback!)

Nikon S3100

The Nikon Coolpix S3100 may be a budget digital camera, but that is no excuse for the lack of quality in the pictures it produces. There are plenty of digital cameras to choose from if you are looking for a basic pocket digital camera. This one is best avoided.

How about the Canon Ixus 220 HS? Small, all metal, great pictures, about £130 in Jessops.
