Compact under £100

That model gets very mixed reviews on amazon though:

Perhaps one of the Panasonic point and shoots may be a good option? You can get this one for £69.95 (at amazon or same price at John Lewis if you want to try before you buy) and reviews seem decent. http://www.cameras.co.uk/reviews/panasonic-dmc-fs40.cfm

(Disclaimer: I have no personal experience of either of the above cameras, but the user reviews of that Canon would put me off a bit).

I have a Canon Ixus 115 which is decent enough but the price has shot up from the £110 I paid a year or so ago to £160 to £180 now and I wouldn't pay that.

I supposr it totally depends what you expect from it
I got asked this a few dayd ago by a friend (not very tog oriented though). In the end i suggested a samsung mv800 . Can be had for £95 new.

I bought one of these off eBay for around £50. It's ok, but you get what you pay for. I think my old, cheap, 4mp Canon PowerShot A430 produces better images, but AF is quite a bit slower.
Although the Panasonic focuses faster, you get lot more OOF shots than the Canon.
