Hi all

I know most compacts nowdays only have the LCd screen on the back, but does anyone know of any site that lists compacts with viewfinders (as in the viewer you put your eye to on DSLRS)? My dad has asked for one for is birthday and most sites don't seem to filter by viewer or not.

I know Canon do some, but any other suggestions appreciated.

We have up to £200 to spend not inc accesories, do not need video, 6-7 mega pixels and up would be fine (more is ok but not greatly needed). Will just be used for holiday snaps etc.

Thanks for your help in advance.

Do you mean Viewfinder?
Cheers

All built-in viewfinders are *terrible* in even the top end compacts. Get a something like a Canon G7/9/10 and a 28/35mm hotshoe optical viewfinder.

The LX3 also has a seperate hotshoe viewfinder, but the camera plus that will be around £350 over your budget.

I think the G9s will be out of budget, a 2nd hand G7 might be in reach though, I'll need to check the dimensions as I'm not sure how compact they are as such.

I had a look at the canon ixus 100 Black the other week and will be buying one. Not only does it have an optical viewfinder but also has no shutter lag at all when the rear screen is turned off. One will set you back around £212.00 at Jessops.

My girlfriend wanted a compact with a viewfinder so ended up getting a Canon Ixus 80IS is which she is more than happy. I do find it strange however that after stipulating that she needed a camera with a viewfinder she now used the screen all the time. :cuckoo:

the only one I can think of was the canon.. I was impressed that canon did two versions of their popular IXUS models to accomodate this
to be honest, on my next compact I won't be bothered as much at all

I would not be surprised if the same thing happens with my Dad but let's see!

Thanks for the suggestion, the Ixus range looks quite nice.

Thanks for this, it may fit the bill perfectly. Decisions decisions! I'll pass all the feedback to the family committee for final approval! :bang:

Thanks all
