Compactflash card....advice needed

Hi all, I have just bought a D300s and would like to know your thoughts on what size card I should use and also what make if possible? I would also really appreciate where I could buy some and also some cases to keep my spares in. Hope someone can help, thanks in advance.

I've got 4 Duracell 16Gb CF cards from www.7dayshop.com 2 of them are 300x and 2 are 600x and the 600x cards have been timed at around 60Mb/s uploading to my computer. For the price and a 10 year guarantee I'm very happy with them. I use them on both my 7D and 5D2 and have had no problems with them whatsoever. You can also get a card caddy for your spare cards from the same place for around £4.

I wouldn't go as large as 16GB for memory cars unless I was doing a lot of video.

I'd always say about 300-500 pics per card, as you don't want to be in a position of losing too much should bad things happen, the card corrupting or being lost. :shrug: Plus you have spares as well.

After having problems with MyMemory's own brand card 5-6 years ago I've tried to stick with Sandisk ever since and have never had a problem with either their CF or SD cards.

I've had no trouble buying from 7dayshop or MyMemory, and they are usually close to, if not the, cheapest price.

Fast CF cards (30Mb/s +) would be the best choice for sustained performance imho. The fastest SDHC cards are 35Mb/s,(and a stupid amount of money btw ) whereas the fastest CF cards are 90Mb/s. I think the D300S tops out at about 30Mb/s in transfering data from the camera to the memory card. I chose Sandisk Extreme CF (60Mb/s) and Sandisk Extreme SDHC cards (30Mb/s).

The highest I have is 8GB in CF for reasons above, but I have several of them along with some 4's too. I have just bought a 16GB extreme SD for my gopro though.

Never had a failure yet in 10 years of using sandisk cards.

Depends if your shooting RAW or JPeg's but as mentioned above my largest card is 8gb, still got a load of 1 / 2 gb cards, but then again I shoot Jpeg's rather than RAW

Just to put my oar in I would and do use a 16GB card on the gounds that corruption of the card is most likely to occur while the card is being pluged into or unplugged from the camera or reader.
With the 16GB I have enough space for any normal (for me) days shooting then use the lead to connect to the laptop with the camera and don't have to remove the card at all. I do carry a 4 GB card as backup incase I get carried away with the shutter button but haven't used it yet.

Just my take on the subject and I do seem to be in the minority. :shrug:

I'd say 16gb is about right as I'd assume file sizes are about the same as the D700 and a 16gb card holds 600 shots (raw not jpeg). If I had to switch cards after only 300 shots I would not be so happy but if I'm shooting most of the day then I normally fill 1 16gb card per day which is great for planning how many cards I need to take when going away for a few days.

I shoot 12bit RAW Lossless Compressed at get file sizes between 12.5 -14MB which gives me approximately 550- 650 files per 8GB memory card. I think that is more than enough to have on one card imho.

I use Sandisk Extreme 30 Mb/S UHS1 SDHC class 10 with no problems in my D7000. I use a 32GB in slot 1 for RAW and a 16GB in slot 2 for JPEG. May be overkill memory wise but at least I won't run out quickly.

Now wait for the replies about corrupt cards and losing images
