So I just bought a Canon 7D having used a 500D previously my memory collection consists entirely of SD cards. What sort of performance does a 7D require? I have Googled around and the generally consensus seems to be 40-60MBs but faster will help clear the buffer.

I was considering getting some reasonably cheap cards such as these:

But heard mixed reviews regarding Kingston cards and real world vs stated performance.

All my SD cards are sandisk and so I was then looking at getting a pair of 16gb cards from play

Any opinion on those cards?

The third option are the duracel cards 32GB card with faster stated performance for the same price as the sandisk, Anyone used these extensively?

I'm not entirely sure how accurate timing a status indicator light is with regards to calculating speed but a worthwhile read!

Thanks for the code Tony, Do you shoot 8fps up to the buffer limit often? how do you find the performance whilst that is written to the card?

What is the long term prospects of CF cards, SD cards have caught up in terms of speed and are available in high capacity for half the price. Are we going to see SD cards take over at the high end or will the durability of CF cards keep them being used.
 
I manage with 133x speed cards in my 7D but if you were a persistant spray and pray shooter then a fatser card may be required. Faster cards of course download faster, but I can always do something else while I'm waiting.
 
The only times I really want/need the 8FPS is away on safari once a year and shooting cricket. The latter certainly allows plenty of time to write the buffer to disk. I'm not sure how often I would fill the buffer whilst on safari.
