Edit My Images
No
I have seen this photography competition which I was quite interested in entering in but the rules state this;

The photograph needs to be at least 4800 x 3600 pixels

and my nikon produces images which are 3872 x 2592.

so this restriction would mean only people which very expensive cameras could enter the competition, wouldn't it? or am I making a fool of myself again by missing the obvious?

Odd, never seen a comp that wants pics that big unless they want to use them for something else and are conning you to hand over your best work!

Check the history of the comp to see if they appear genuine.

Regards

Chris

Like Chris says, have a look at the competition's T&Cs... some get a bit "greedy" with what you are permitting them to do with submitted images.

this was the full paragraph of that rule

2. The photograph needs to be at least 4800 x 3600 pixels [16 inches x 11 inches] at 300 dpi resolution, supplied in jpeg format, compressed to a maximum file size of 5MB. No other format will be accepted.

I guess they are talking about prints? seems stupid to stipulate pixel sizes of prints if they want you to send a jpeg!

check the rest of the rules - what do they say about copyright?

I googled the line you pasted and found the competition (won't name it but it's easily found), presuming I found the right one, you are indeed giving them the right to use your image:

8. By submitting an image:

(a) You grant (*name removed*) a non-exclusive, perpetual, royalty-free world-wide license to republish any image(s) you submit to {name} in any format, including without print and electronic format for the purposes of any promotional activity conducted by {name} in relations to this competition (including without limitation by way of exhibition of submitted images whether before or after the Competition) and for referring to and using any image(s) you submit in any document or literature (in any media) for historical and descriptive purposes (to refer to the history and/or evolution of {name} and/or this competition.)

(b) You agree that {name} may publish (but is not required to) your name when publishing any image you submitted; and

(c) You warrant that you are the author of the image and that you have the rights to enter the competition.

9. By entering the competition, you give permission for your photograph to be used for media purposes as {name}choose.

This part of the rules make you thier slave to be summoned at thier whim for what ever purpose they choose

By entering the competition, you agree to make yourself available for media relations including interviews and photographs, and as CGE choose.

Also no mention of what exactly you will win ??

Surely, it is time that a "contract" for competition should be as fair as any comercial contract. They get everything, including your soul in this case, and you get (possibly) some shiny new camera. I for one won't be entering, best of luck to those who do.

As I suspected! Keep away - would be my advice!

Having read those terms & conditions, there's no way I'd be entering that! Just my view though, other may disagree!

Thats really taking the mick and doesn't even offer a half decent prize, let alone what happens to your images afterwards.
