Hi Guys,

Just wondering if anyone had ever heard of Elite Studios in London? My girlfriend has just won a competition and paid for a deposit over the phone...

Looks legit to me, just wondering if anyone knows of them or had any reviews...

Thanks

Joe

I see on their website they are running a promotion for a free shoot where you fill in a form and then they contact you and ask for a (refundable) £35 booking deposit to make sure you attend?

Looks like they use something like portrait professional on all their portraits - including children and men from looking at their galleries so hope she likes smooth skin

Does your girlfriend remember entering this competition for a prize from Elite Studios, or was it just a cold call saying she'd won?

A Big Red Flag if it's the latter.

I presume she paid by credit card she should contact her card provider and get it cancelled. I'm sure distance selling regulations apply and the cooling off period. Never pay anything just because someone phones you up, or at least if you do let me have your number :D

Ugh oh :suspect: hope you have a never ending cheque book as you have to pay for the shots at the end of it and that is not all.

Known to many people that have had this and YES it is a con. :gag:

Avoid like ther plague :nono:

My girlfriend has just won a competition

No she hasn't

Its quite an old trick really, they get her in, do makeup and such, some photography (possibly crappy) and then high pressure sales.

Mum of a friend of mine had this in the 90s, ended up buying £1600 of pictures that she "won"

I mean, okay she did get pictures but she never liked them enough to hang them up!

Will be as Nano suggested. She will get her free shoot and makeover, and then a real heavy salepitch, loads of pressure to buy really overpriced prints.

If she is prepared for this, then she will be fine. Tell her to have a good time, enjoy the makeover and shoot but not to part with anything for the photos. In time they will contact her to sell them at an ever decreasing price - afterall, they have taken them and processed them - I think about £50 for a dvd with all images is a price I have heard mention, but quite a few months after the event.

If you/she wants some nice portraits done, then a better idea is to contact your local photography (or ask on here) and you will get a much better deal.

Don't touch with a barge pole, bit like the cold calling method of saying you've won a holiday to Florida, just need x amount for administration costs. Pure scam!

Thanks for the heads up guys... She entered in this competition by signing up with a rep on oxford high street.
