Hi I am hoping for some advice as to what camera people would recommend for a complete novice. I know I interested in definitly doing motorsport photography as I am motorsport fan but I can also see the appeal of landscapes etc. Is it possible to find a camera to do all things or are cameras specific to different situations?
Thanks in advance

are you looking at normal compact cameras or point and shoot cameras, either way really just do you research, there are plenty of websites around that will get you up to speed with what you want to know, if you do your research right you'll end up with a camera that your happy with, and at a decent price

For landscapes and motorsport you have chosen 2 subjects that normally require to completely different focal lengths so you may need to budget for 2 lenses. Your kit lens that comes with the body should be fine for landscapes but for motor sport around 300mm is usually required.

With that budget you will stick with a crop body.
To cover both landscapes and motor sport you will need, at least, 2 lenses. I would suggest 2nd hand equipment to get the most out of your money.

For £500 (prices are approximate):

£250: Either a Canon 30D or a 450D
£60: Canon 18-55 IS lens
£130: Canon 55-250mm IS lens
£60: extra battery, memory card, bag etc.

ps. I now have 2,000 POSTS :)

canon 450d with 18-55mm and 55-250mm lens at lowest web price for supply from Uk will be the one of the most economical kits which will do the job.

We got our 450d plus lens for £370 from digigood on ebay and £155 for the lens from buyacamera

iomtt

the first thing u need to know is that once your buy into a brand u will be stuck with it.

Autofocus is not that important in landscape but is crucial for Motorsport so u might want to consider Nikon as their entry level cams hav a better AF
