I want to ditch the desktop/netbook combination for a laptop. It needs to run Photoshop CS5 perfectly, and generally be a pretty powerful computer. I don't want to sacrifice much performance from my desktop, although I expect some loss.

Budget around £1000, any suggestions?

Sony Vaio.

I use the Vaio NW20ZF which is slightly older now, but with the core2 duo T6600 processor, 4GB ram, 64bit operating system (win 7) and a 320GB hard drive.

It runs CS5 without a problem and mine cost then ( just over a year ago) £629.

I would be looking for something similar, full HD 1080 graphics, at least 500GB hard drive and budget for a 1TB external back up drive, 4GB ram and at least my processor spec.

I would recommend this one, quad core processor, full HD graphics, 500GB hard drive, blu ray drive, 16.4 inch screen, 4GB ram fitted, upgradeable to 8GB ram etc etc.

Can be picked up from around £900, PC world are doing it for £949, then pop to maplins for one of their cheap 1TB external drives for back up and your sorted.

Pretty nice thanks Ian, my girlfriend has a Viao, cost her around 600 last christmas I think and it seems pretty nice to use etc.. One thing I dislike is the feel of it, the material is this striped plastic, feels odd, cant explain it. Build quality is pretty important to me as I hate the feel of most laptops other than macbook pro's (dont want to go down the apple route)

sony vaios are unfortunately overpriced and cheaply made.

whatever you decide id concider keeping some budget back for a decent monitor, youll never get a laptop screen to replicate that.

Ill be keeping my monitors from my desktop setup, so that wont be an issue luckily

HP do decent (if slightly expensive) laptops. There's a 14" i7/2.66GHz/4Gb one for less than £1000 if you look around...

student discount? buy some ram , job done. I run CS perfect on my dual core mac. I dont want to open up a can of worms. So maybe quad core is an option.
