Yes
A simple question that lead from an article i read.

If i focus on a certain area, then wait for somthing to enter the area ive focused on, will the thing that enterd the shot, after ive focused, be in focus?

Hope that makes sense. Thanks.
Dean.

Yes but only if it is exactly the same distance away.

If you have your camera on a tripod for instance with an aperture of f11 then you would have a bigger success rate than with an aperture of f1.8... (infact it would be almost impossible at f1.8 with such a small depth of field)

In a word, yes.

For example if I want to shoot a bird feeder awaiting for a subject to arrive, I'll focus on the feeder and switch to manual focus.

This will stop the autofocus hunting around whilst I press the shutter.

This obviously works better on a tripod were neither subject or camera are going to move relative to each other.

I'd also use a smaller aperture to increase the depth of field to keep the subject acceptably sharp.
