compressing MP3's on Mac for website...

have an MP3 file I want to upload to my site's juxebox, but it's over the limit, and is 9.6MB (yikes! over the top high quality), so am wondering how to compress it and save it as a small file to upload to the web (no its not going on my iPod, so no point in saving it as such and such on iTunes, as that wont serve much purpose)

It is going to be hard (read: nearly impossible) to compress an MP3 significantly without resampling at a lower bit rate ("iTunes save as such and such" as you put it) - MP3s are effectively a compressed format anyway.

okay, so how does one resample and save that way? web tunes are always not top quality anyway.
 
Don't really use it, but does Garage Band allow you to specify bit rate when you export...?
 
Use Audacity load the mp3, then save as and choose a lower sample rate.

BTW on your portraiture website, the wiggly graphic equalizer thing is really really distracting :)
