I'm looking for a set of 2.1 speakers for my pc and have narrowed it down the following three choices:

1.Harmon Kardon soundsticks 3

2.JBL equivalent to the HK's above

3.Bose companion 3

Anybody got any experience with any of these or perhaps another make,i'm currently running a quite poor set of sony speakers.
I don't want a disco sound but it would be nice to turn up on the odd occasion when nobody is about.
A headphone socket is a must which possibly the HK set up doesn't have.

Thanks in advance for any advice/recomendation.
 
Personally, I avoid Bose like the plague.... (vastly) overpriced when it comes to their "wave" system.

One of the kids have the Logitech S220 (£16) and they are far better than they should be for the price.

Have to say that unless you have a decent sound card which really takes care of the analogue sound, I think computer speakers will all sound much of a muchness as the source is relatively ropey. Much better to get a USB DAC and drive a decent set of speakers from an amplifier IME.
 
I had a logitech 5.1 set up 2/3 years ago which for the £70 i paid gave tremendous performance for the money,sadly though i had to have all the speakers on the desk which was a pain due to lack of space.

Off out today so maybe i'll have a look for a logitech 2.1 set up.
 
im also using logitech plug in speakers,im astonished how well they perform,fully portable so no need to plug into a mains source,with the pc,s built in graphic equaliser i can adjust the sound to suit,also the volume is pretty outstanding too.very pleased and less than £20
 
I have Edifier speakers, I've had them about 5 years. They are 5.1 not 2.1 but oh my god when you turn them up they make yer ears bleed.

Just joking, the sound quality is astonishing and they are not too expensive.

Although this place is out of stock the make and model are usefull. I have a number of mates with the above speakers and the sound quality is tremendous.

I have a pair of these and for the size and money I think they're an excellent set of speakers, normally a few on eBay as well
 
Well in the end i listened to all three with the help of a knowledgeable chap (for a change) from comet.
I had around an hour of the guys time testing speakers and in the end i settled on the Bose companion 2.1 set up for two reasons....one,i thought the sound was excellent and two,i negotiated £25 off as the seal on the box was broken so they ended up only £25 more than the HK set which disappointed slightly on the bass.

5 hours on and i still can't belive i have paid £175 for pc speakers :bonk:

I have battled with computer speakers for too long and have decided to go down the DAC/AMP/Bookshelf root. Had Bose Companion 5s and they were rubbish, the Companion 3s are much better for music because they don't do all that stupid 5.1 simulation malarky.

i have a set of logitechs (2.1) about 4 years ago and theyre still working fantastically, amazing quality, very loud, just everything about them is brilliant.

JBL satellites front and rear and a B&W center. plenty to make my ears bleed and the neighbours angry :D

i do have a pair of old B&W DM220's in the parents garage, dont have the room for them unfortunately.

Same story with most Creative speakers I have bought, they always tend to go up in price, :cuckoo: but that Amazon link you have seen is very over inflated! They are still about £30-40 and now come with an ipod dock too in most case

They look really nice and complement your system! How do you find the sound.

I am just in the process of upgrading my OLD (10yrs+) Creatives to a pair of B&W bookcase jobbies :D

ta, sorry for the cruddy mobile photos..

im loving them, popped the opening section to saving private ryan on last night and the depth of sound was amazing.

music wise theyre also really good, nice and rich sounding. i listen to pretty much everything from classical to rock to dnb and they handle each excellently.

Gerrard, i have doen the same few days ago, but went the other way. Was testing both Companion and Soundsticks 3 and stopped on HK. They somehow had more "feeling" to it. And they gave me 20% online (although bought in House of Frasier) discount :). Anyway, enjoy your new speakers!

They are amazing, only 2.1 but pack an almighty punch. Really clear quality also :love:
