Condensation on lens

Hi,

I've been reading a few tutorials online and some talk about getting condensation on the lens when you return to a warm environment from outside if it's extremely cold.

Has anyone had this? and is it a temporary thing that will clear up in ten mins? Or is it more long lasting?

I ask because I wanna go outside but it's extremely damp and frosty and I my wife is blasting the heating indoors.

Ps I haven't got any sealed plastic bags which are said to help.
 
It wont last, that's for sure. The best way to get around it is to try and somehow introduce a gradual temperature change to the lens instead of going from one extreme to another. Odd I know, but in the past I've found wrapping the lens etc in a thick jumper works quite well. Also, keep the lens cap on, as this will stop a lot of the moist air being constantly intorduced to the lens itself. :)
 
Best bet, put the camera in your bag and go outside. Once you've been outside a short while take camera out of bag and use it.

Coming back in - before you come inside take the memory and CF card out the camera and pocket them. Put your camera in the bag, zip it up and go inside. Don't unzip the bag for an hour.

You pocketed the CF & battery so you could charge / download images without having to open the camera bag.

All good, no need to faff about with sealed plastic bags or anything.
 
I just leave mine in the camera bag, and place in the coolest room, it is the dramtic difference of temperature that causes condensation
 
I just leave mine in the camera bag for a good while till it has got to "room tempreture" Then I remove it. As said by richardthesane remove the memmory card before you go indoors. Then you can put the photos on your PC whilst the camera is "warming up".
 
Condensation can lead to fungus growths inside your camera so be careful to avoid it when possible. The best way is to wrap it up in a carrier bag when going from cold to warmth and vice versa so that it adjusts to the temperature in the bag gradually.
