his own fault for buying a nikon TBH. my canon 5D2 came in a box with a canon seal sticker on it
So did my new Canon 50D, but it still had a store brand CF card in it with 8 pictures on it...

not really harsh, its based on experience. sales staff will try and get rid of store soiled samples for the same price as unopened boxes to maximise profit.
TBF they are sales people, not exactly a highly trained job for the most part (or it seems with jessops staff anyway lol )
Whilst I understand OP's frustration I think the reaction is a bit OTT, it could easily have been a mistake. Maybe give the store a chance to rectify it before crying bloody murder.
I think once the OP's question had been answered this thread should have been closed, threads like this are getting far too common now, with people taking things the wrong way and arguments arising
And that's an absurd generalisation.
why not?
because its a sweeping generalisation and not at all fair
but you didn't need me to explain that , did you ?

Quite right, also, if one chose not to make such assumptions, then perhaps ones experiences would be more positive.
What goes around.....
I'm not making assumptions, its not clouding my judgement, my experiences have been based on sales people not having much of a clue wither it be clothes, bikes, cameras etc.
its not a generalisation though

Oooohhhhhh, is that the sound of testosterone flying around in here![]()

Of course you are making assumptions. Because you've had bad experiences you arrive at the conclusion that all sales folk are problematic.
This is basically the statement your making is it not?
It would make far more sense to say the problem is you or the manner you conduct yourself and not sales people in general.
Or it would make even more sense for you to admit that you made a sweeping generalization and in-fact not all of your experiences have been bad.
The latter being far more probable.

what was the question
I can see why the OP's annoyed. There could be any number of explanations, and perhaps he came off as being very argumentative, but selling something as new when it's not is wrong. And I'm afraid I don't believe that no shop would do it deliberately to make a few quid. End of the day, the assistant said the box was open because he'd charged the battery. I wouldn't have left until I was given a new sealed box...'I'll take a sealed box with a flat battery thank you'.
I hope the OP gets it sorted. Poor customer service really riles me.
Sadly, when it comes to Jessops I have to agree, display models do get sold as new and Foodpoison has already admitted in another thread that he tries out the various different cameras they sell to familiarise himself with them.
Multiply his test shots by 6 or 7 staff in each store......
What I couldn't work out is why the assistant was charging the battery?
I'd share the problem, if a company has the right to make that mistake in the first place then the customer has the right to share the problem with others. I'd have no problem doing it either. If a company doesn't want it's failings publishing then they shouldn't fail in the first place IMO.
Exactly, partly why I think the shop knew damn well that they were selling an ex-demo model as new.
sharing is one thing slating them before they've had chance to sort things is another
