Hi all

I'm off next year on a big holiday as described in another post.

I was considering getting the nikon 28-300mm but have now sort of decided
on the nikon 18-200 lens but I'm also considering getting the nikon 70-300mm to go with it on to my D300s

I'd wantt he 300mm for when we go off looking for moose in Northern Maine and for Lighthouses that are off the coast of Maine.

do you think this is a good idea/pairing ?

28-300 is getting a good reputation from FX users. Considering that on a crop sensor you're only going to be using the sweet spot I'd say get it. So long as it's wide enough at the short end.
 
If you have 200mm there's no point in getting 300mm IMHO.

You could get the 28-300 plus a 10-20 which would cover everything you need but for me I think 28mm is in the most commonly used area so you'd be changing lenses all the time.

For DX I'd either get the 18-200 and just take that or get a UWA, 35mm 1.8 and a 55-200 or 70-300.
