I have made one of http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GVUxKnNMW44today and been trying to pop balloons to no avail. Can anyone suggest a way round it? I even ended up taping 1 end of the pc sync cable to a dart and the other end to the tinfoil. I put the balloon right up against the foil so as soon as the dart connected with the foil pressing against the balloon it fired the flash, at the same time I had the camera on a 1 second exposure, I have gone through 40ish balloons and every shot is showing the balloon intact.

Actually it is easier than you think.

Get a sound activated camera trigger.

When I used to do it simply place the baloon in a dark room, set up the flash at say 1/8th power or high speed, and the whole thing goes off by sound, very easy.

Three minutes on google found this, have you tried google.

Sounds as if your firing the flash too soon, you need to introduce a delay? have you tried a sound trigger?
