Convert TC-80N3 ?

Why would you? You can get 3rd party timer controls for the 450D on ebay for around £20.
 
I've not done it - but looking at the site it seems relatively straight forward if you have adequate soldering skills.

Personally, after having a couple of third party remotes, I would rather convert a Canon one and have a decent quality remote to use. Added bonus, cheap extension cables.
 
I'm perfectly happy with my 3rd party timer remote for my 450 off ebay :)
 
you could always look at the hahnel giga t pro wireless ones for the same price as the canon timer.
