Ok basically i did my mum a favour for her friend by doing her wedding pics. These pics (As requested) are on a CD (i know i know!) all with my copyright on them....

Today ive found them on facebook..... naturally i will be sending her a message requesting the removal of them (she dosent realise i can actually see her pictures...)...

How can I word it politely as i'm incredibly annoyed.....

Thanks.

p.s - i DO NOT do this for a living - its my hobby and i make a few quid (from friends!!) now and again and i do not advertise as i have no intention whatsoever of making a career out of rphotography.....

What were you expecting them to do with them? Selling/giving someone photos in this day and age (especially family event ones like a wedding) and thinking they wouldn't want to put them on Facebook is extremely naive.

Did you give them a set of terms and conditions for the use of the images?

I can understand why you are annoyed but you have to realise that a lot of lay-people don't understand copyright, and might have assumed that as it was a favour that you wouldn't actually mind the photos being on facebook. Did you provide them with a contract and explain the usage-rights that they had?

You send her a large invoice - payable if the pics are not removed within x days - or if it were me - payable anyway! Good luck. Ignorance is never an excuse!

im not naieve - but i knew her.... and her friend and told her specifically "i do not want to see these images on facebook".....!!

Last time i don anyone a "favour" - a complete waste of 3 hours of my life for her to take the p*55 out of me and not even a thank you....

Well don't worry too much about being polite if you explicitly stated they were not to end up on Facebook. If there was a possibility of a misunderstanding you'd obviously want to avoid causing offence but if they've completely ignored a specific and clear request then follow awp's advice.

I can only view two on her facebook page - (profile pics visable) however (i know i feel like a t*t now!)... there was 120 images.....

I told her for freecopyright and edited its £6 per image which isnt a lot!!>.... im not a pro and DO NOT pretend to be!..... i make it very clear im at uni and this is more of a hobby....

so what do i do about the other 118 i cannot see?

talk to her direct, via your mum, send an invoice or report to facebook and theyll remove them.

either way though to be honest unfortunately there isnt much stopping her from blocking your view of the album and rehosting them..

How can you give "free copyright" but not allow Facebook posting? If you're setting terms you're not giving them free use of the images.

neil gi know :(

i think its more of a case of "live and learn" however i think its damn rude of her to make me stand there in the hot sun for 3 hours - not even a thank you - and to put my pictures on fb!!

if it was a stranger then there wouldnt even be a thread - but its someone i know thats really got me going :!

ETA - free from copyright once images are bought from CD - then she can FB them - she hasnt given me a penny - therefore they are mine.

Can anyone help me word it politely??

She knows i dont want them on facebook- she has a pricelist already - my numbers/email etc... but nothing.

Im not very good with "nice" letters..... im veery good with nasty ones = however i need to keep this civil... no skin of my nose but i dont want to make it awquard for my mum lol

A pricelist isn't the same as an invoice, and an invoice doesn't really need any "wording" as it's not a letter.
See here.

Im just not polite when people p*ss me off.....

something along the words of

"hi ***....

I specifically requested that the images that were put on the CD for you were not used on facebook as they are subject to copyright, but I have since found they have been used online. Therefore, please find below the invoice for all images which i expect to be paid in full;

£6x120 images = £720

Regards

Suze" ??

i will talk to her before i send it but im pretty sure the above ^^ is what i will be sending.

Im really annoyed - i know i will have to ** tmy losses but i just wont let it go as its plain rude!

Meh.

Just speak ta your ma first.

Then just let it go. You've learn't your lesson.

In anycase, if she has hundreds of facebook friends, someone might come back to you asking if you could do their wedding. Then naturally you can set all the terms and conditions you want.

Did you watermark the pics with your name?

I think the most annoying thing would be the lack of even a thanks!

I'm having difficulty seeing exactly what you agreed with her.
Did you agree she could have the photos for free if they didn't go on Facebook and that if she wanted to put them on Facebook she would have to pay £6 per image for every image on the CD?

I'd be more formal with the letter if you get to that stage and the invoice should be a separate document formatted in the proper manner.

yes - watermarked with my initials....

no thanks at all!

I said i did not want to see them on facebook. I gave her a pricelist with no mention of facebook at all!.....

forget all about it and move on, learn by your mistakes

why sholud i? im well aware i have to cut my losses but not without a point being made as i think shes rude.

I think you need to calm the **** down dear.

what is the problem with her showing the wedding pics on facebook

so when someone nicks your photos and fobs them off as bought and everyone comments how fab they are (which they have....and they arnt pro pics!) you would be fine with that???

absolutely no credit coming your way - no thanks - no payment

sure.

So am I right in thinking there are two separate issues here?
One being that she hasn't paid you yet and the other being that she's broken your agreement not to use the images on Facebook - so that even if she pays you still don't want the images on Facebook?

If so you need to make both points clear and separate in any communication you have.

You've made a huge error by not having any of this in writing and by handing over the images before being paid but I'm sure you've realised that already. Not being "a pro" doesn't mean you shouldn't follow professional practice.

they have not nicked your photos, you gave them on a CD. I actively encourage people to put the pics on facebook because its free advertising.

If they have cropped off your signature then ask them to put pictures up with your sig on and ask them to put a credit on the folder too.

what is the problem with the bit in bold?????????

This is another case of how bad forums are for people like yourself. take a chill pill.

sorry - she hasnt paid and when she does she can do what she wants with them... thats the point.

im well aware of my error and i will learn from in...

POAH - bog off my thread and go insult someone else - i wanted helpful advice not insulting crap.

Start by getting your mum to chase the money up with her friend and then go from there.

If she hasnt paid you then get your mum to ask nicely first.

If she wont cough up then just comment on all the pics you can see about her being a non payer.

Well thats what i would do.

Good luck thou as its not nice when you do things out the goodness of your heart and get stiffed over.

For once poah has said something with which i agree (can i get treatment for that do you think  )

whether you are right or wrong you really need to calm down - remember act in haste, repent at leisure.

The bottom line here is that you are very unlikely to get the money without going to court - you can probably force her to take the pics off her facebook (also if you can only see 2 how can you prove that the whole 120 or whatever are there)

so yes its satisfying to send her a nasty letter and force her to back down - but think for a moment of the cost of that satisfaction

this is your mum's freind we are talking about - is it worth falling out with her, not to mention the possible effect on your relationship with your mum.

also are you whiter than white, have you declared yourself self employed to the tax office for example - what if she meets fire with fire by threatening to report you to HMRC if you havent.

my advice is to forget it - you'll know better next time , and be clearer from the off on whether its a job or a favour and eitherway what the terms are.

im happy to take that advice as you put it far more politely than POAH - theres a way to put things (which you said and i agree)POAH hasnt got that ability of politeness.

I will speak to my mum later and ask her to get her friend to pay for or remove the pictures.

I really dont understand the OP at all. He did a wedding and gave the CD with copyright... then moans they are on FB??? If you didnt charge her, then why moan about lack of payment?

Seems to me you agreed to photograph the wedding for free, so no payment due. You requested they werenot to be displayed on facebook, but to be honest in this day and age how do you expect people to show their friends their wedding photos, a bit unrealistic to be honest. If the couple printed copies of shots and distributed them to friends would you also feel agrieved. I think you are being unrealistic here, if you want to be paid for shooting establish conditions beforehand not after the event.
