Can someone tell me how you put the copyright over a photo to stop it being used.
I took some casual shots and have found them on a "so called freinds web site" without my permission and I want to stop this happening again.

Thanks.

You'll need to use a programme like photoshop to put text over the picture - alt 0169 will give you the copyright symbol. Sadly it may not stop this happening - it is a mega problem.

It is indeed a problem, but you don't actually need to put the copyright symbol on your pics.

They are all automatically protected by copyright from the moment they are created.

How did your "friend" get hold of the pic? I should contact her/him, explain about copyright, and ask for them to be removed.

Your pics are automatically your copyright - as said above - without putting a watermark on them - sadly not many people respect copyright - or are just ignorant of it - so watermarking does sometimes help.

As stated in my first reply. You can also put your name and contact details into the EXIF data by entering the info in the appropriate places in the camera menu.

I put my web address on my photos more for traceability than anything else. You're never going to stop photos being circulated if you put them on the web. For example a large proportion of my facebook friends have one of my shots as thier avatar, it has my web adress so if anyone wants a large version they know where to come. Use it to help build your brand and be flattered, just don't put any versions large enough to get a decent print on the net.

I did my first job a month ago. I wanted to protect my photos and used something called visual watermark which you can download from the net. I have now watermarked all my photos. Try it and se what you think.

you can do this in Photoshop
Add some text then do a drop shadow set at 0 distance you might like to add a bevel and emboss as well
Then change the fill to 0

Carefull though. If you put a copyrigt image in the wrong place on an image you will get a pasting off other forum members. It's surprising how it upsets people when they see a copyright logo on an image .. Right bring it on;)
