Okay, like most of us, I am constantly on the lookout for the Holy Grail - a perfect carrying solution, right? Well, being a bit of a realist, I accept that I will probably never find 'The One' but it doesn't stop me looking, and sometimes along the way I find a nice wee treat that provides a solution for some of the time.
Whilst browsing through an American camera mag, I saw an advert for the Cotton Carrier (the inventor is called Cotton, hence the name). Basically, a chest harness with additional holster fitting on the side strap, which houses a 'plastic' (Lexan - apparently a NASA material or something like that) catch, into which your camera - secured to a 'nut' slides and locks. This looked quite interesting, so I searched the web and found a few reviews - all very favourable, well, at least the ones by those who had actually experienced the carrier. In my mind, this would be the perfect solution when shooting a bike event or something similar, maybe even when just out walking the dogs as I often see deer and other wildlife on the way. As I have ALWAYS hated the standard camera strap as a way to transport my beloved kit, I took the plunge and ordered one. Canada to the West coast of Scotland took just 5 days!
Like a kid at Xmas, I unwrapped my Cotton Carrier and got it set up. The screws were fitted to two bodies, a gripped 40D with 70-200L and 30d with 17-85IS and off I went with the dogs (okay, I didn't NEED to take 2 bodies, but I wanted to give it a proper trial). I won't bother posting my shots from the walk, as they are irrelevant, but I will say this - I have found a fantastic way to keep my cameras handy and ready to go any time, both hands free when I need them, I don't notice the weight being carried and the Cotton Carrier is now a permanent addition to my arsenal.

I can certainly see the appeal from a comfort and convenience point of view, although I don't think I'd wear one.

I'd like one of the belt holsters to use alongside my R-Strap though, although the Spider Holster is due soon too.

Yeah, to be honest, the holster on a belt is ideal for just walking around - reasonably discreet too, the chest rig is better suited for events etc. when working with a couple of bodies and speed is of the essence without worrying about the cameras bouncing around everywhere.
