Could someone recommend a good low angle tripod

Hi guys.

I have the green eyed monster :-( today a fellow photographer friend & I went out on a coastal trip, which did go really well & I learnt a few things in the process.

On the downside he had Manfrotto, 055 xprob which I loved, :-/

I liked how you could get down & get the low angled shots.

So my question is can you you guys recommend a good alternative to manfrotto as I really don't want to spend that much. :-(

Giottos do some great tripods that are very versatile like the manfrotto but cheaper.The 9351b is very sturdy and goes very low to the ground.
 
Benbo for my tuppence worth, a little heavy, buuut..... Very very versatile :)
 
How about the Manfrotto 190XPROB, lighter, cheaper, but same adjustable centre column

Vanguard also do some nice tripods with a very versatile centre column arrangement
 
I would have thought most other tripods with a model reference bearing a ' professional ' tag would be able to get down low. Have a look at Giottos. I think they're good value. A year or so ago I had a Vanguard Alta Pro. You could get down very low with it and the procedure was swift and easy. Try and keep a watch out for bargains.

I was just gonna recommend a Manfrotto 055CXPRO3 as that's what I've got and it works wonders for getting very low to the ground.

I had a Redsnapper before (283C IIRC) and that was also very good for getting down low. I did have an issue with the locking system on the legs where I was on a cherry picker, went to let loosen the leg and it fell right out! I assume I was either unlucky or the locking system has been revised by now.

One thing with a tripod though, you may spend ~£200-300 on a good set of legs and the same again on a head but they will last you for years. Other kit comes and goes...

I was going to get a Manfrotto 055/190 (cant remember which has the horizontal centre) then came across the Giotto 9531B which was considerably cheaper but done 99% of what the Manfrotto did...

Which is just as well as I have yet to use it (had it a year now :$)
 
wex.co.uk aka warehouse express Giottos MTL9351B thats where I got mine from....
