Two nice shots David, of the two I like the Ringneck Dove. I do not think there is much noise in either shot, it may appear so in the 2nd but I think it is just the OOF background.

Its the first shot mainly, check the green leaf about the birds wings.

Do you think it might be the texture of the leaf, the area surounding it and on the same plane looks ok, strange.

I really like the dunnock, the collared dove is good too, but number 1 has the edge for me

Two good captures David There is a small amount of noise in #1 which does show more on the leaf directly behind the bird. It has been introduced when you tried bringing detail out in the bird.Hope you do not mind the edit David and will remove if you wish. It was just to show that the leaf should in theory be in dark shadow. I know it is only a leaf but by adjusting it back slightly it has also brought back a small amount of shadow on the birds feathers which I think looks more natural.
