Are there any online courses as such to help and assist with learning portrait photography? Looking to get in to it a bit more and am looking to further my knowledge a bit and am thinking a course might be good. I dont have much money so am looking for something cheap or free (I know you pay for what you get) but I need to start some where.

Or tutorials would be good.

Your best bet is to go to the library and take out some books and read. It's nice and free.

Also strobist101 is good for off-camera flash (and of course you want to get your flash off the camera)

The thing is.. Once you understand the camera and it's controls, good portraiture is about expression and lighting. There is no lighting setup that works for person "A" that can be copied for person "B" as faces are infinitely varied. Understanding beauty and symmetry and how to use angles and light and shadow to change the shape of a face is a good technical grounding that can be learnt from texts, understanding how to time a shot for the expression and how to get the expression are better done as part of a course.
