Courthouse and the clock

I wondered what was up in the top of the Denton County Courthouse, and the management was kind enough to let me go up there and look. Interesting way up:

A pendulum clock.

A cable attached to a weight drives the main gear:

Which drives this gear set that connects to the clockface one story up. The ladder wasn't in the best shape, and the guide was reluctant to let me climb the last level, so I didn't get that. Maybe next time.

The escapement:

No one there really knew much about how it works; they bring someone in when they need to service it. The pendulum swings through a slot in the floor, and isn't open to view.

A great collection. It's interesting to see the clock machinery. Perhaps a shot of the clock face would be a good addition to the set.
