Just watched in horror as my 7d with 24-70 2.8 slipped from my hands and hit the ground with a sickening thud, game over:(:mad:
 
Nobody died, it's just money



no pun intended
 
is it so far gone its not repairable?
 
i reckon its fubar but im going to try claiming on the house insurance looks like the credit card maybe coming out again soon i wouldnt mind i normaly have the strap wrapped around my hand/wrist not this time

I know. I just found I've got to have hip replacement surgery. I'm only 55.
 
It happens, just had my D750 back having done the same thing, did cost £270 though and will claim against house insurance I think.

Lol. Count yourself lucky, I'm only 35 and need a hip replacement (arthritis) but doctors want to wait until I'm forty to do it so have to put up with it at the moment. I'd rather just get it done now but haven't been able to convince them yet!
 
Dropped mine a month or so ago on to a rock, absolute heart-stopper, fortunately I'd just put it in a neoprene cover, it cut clean through the neoprene but baring a slight scratch the camera was fine. Sorry to hear yours faired less well.

Check the excess first, it could well be £200 to £250 and your premium will be higher in future if you claim, so for getting £70 quid back you could loose out.
 
Had the same happen to my new Fuji Xpro-1,strap gave way,hit the ground then roll down an hill :eek:,luckily the camera seem to still be working,the grip & lens hood took most of the knocks,but the body has a few dents in it,so it will have to be a keeper,who buy bodies with dent in them :(
 
Sorry to hear about that.

I have a Black Rapid strap and for a a belt and braces approach have a Joby wrist strap on as well just in case the first fails.

Once bitten forever shy.
 
I have never dropped any of my equipment but had a few close calls though.. I agree checking on insurance first. If it is beyond economical repair.... Go for a cash settlement. You will get the cash equiv. Of what their suppliers charge. Their suppliers normally are about 10-15% on top of retail.

hope you will get it sorted and in a timely manner.
