Create animated map showing car route?

I'm looking to add an animated map which shows the route the car took over some distance which I can use with Sony Vegas Pro. Searches so far are pulling up tutorials which make simple animations which have fairly straight jumps from one location to another or smaller sites I can't find much information. Anyone have any recommendations for a tool that can generate such a video? It's just for amateur use so don't need anything particularly fancy.

Thanks,
John

Why not photograph a map, print to A3 then use a marker to draw your route photographing frames as you go?

Dougie.

If you already have the map and just want to animate a line to show your route, why not use a mask to slowly reveal the line?

I'm not wanting to just draw a straight line instead I want it to follow the road route which is complex and it's lengthy so I'm looking for software to generate that route from a a tcx file or similar.

I did hear that this can be done in Final Cut Pro so if you know someone who uses that they could produce a video clip for you to import into Vegas Pro.

Google Earth is perfect for this. You can just drop a .TCX (or pretty much any sensible file) on there, edit the tour how you like and export using Movie Maker.

Free copy of Google Earth Pro - https://www.google.com/earth/download/gep/agree.html

Then you can just pull the movie into FinalCut/Vegas/whatevs.

I've been looking at some of the Google earth guides although it seems performance can be a bit inconsistent but think it's worth trying.

Think Strava do something like this on their app, not 100% sure though

I've been messing around making various animations for our American Adventure later this year (which includes an awesome road trip)... Sounds like I've made exactly what you want.

Do you have access to After Effects?

The Relive app mentioned above does something similar through Strava but I don't have it set up nor the the GPS track either.

Thanks for the offer but I don't have After Effect and I'm sure I can find something commercial to do it. So far I've not summoned up the motivation to sort through all the photos yet.
