Create your own bokeh shape

Tried it years ago with film, you could at the time buy screw on filter type things with shapes pre cut.

LOL many times has this been posted, usually around Christmas every year :D

good for those who's never seen it before though

Tried it with my nifty fifty last year, was quite difficult to get any result (I found).
I used a cheapo filter to give me a base to fold some cardboard around, then stuck two sheets of black card to it, so that I could slide a shaped piece in and out.
The difficulty I think, is that you need point sources behind the subject, which I just didn't have

Like Dave says, this comes up regularly.I did this a few years back just to have a go.

I've since seen bokeh filters for sale on the web for a few $ a pack.

I wouldn't really call this "bokeh", it has to clear a cut and defined edges, in order for it to really work the mask needs to be behind the lens aperture, not in front.

From what I read it works best with point sources of light in the background, so using Christmas tree lights (either coloured or plain white) - like Whiteflyer did in his example.
