Creative but catchy domain

Anyone fancy helping me come up with a catchy domain name?

Its for my portfolio type website, which is currently piggy backing off of Weebly with rmphotographic.weebly.com

RMphotographic.co.uk has gone, as have most variances and as its being used by a pro tog, I want to keep away from that.

The trouble is, I have no creativity with words, and as most of the usual boring ones focused around my name and photography have gone, I'm stuck.

Also, as a side, which .(what) ending is deemed as most appropriate. I don't think I need .com, .co.uk would be nice, but how does .net and other endings get viewed upon reputation wise? IE which look more professional?

Sorry for the string of silly Q's!

Rob

What sort of photography do you do most?

I thought up a few based on my favorite styles of photography, wildlife and landscape, coming up eventually with wildaboutlife.

I also found the .co.uk and .com were taken (by holding pages) so decided on .net.

I think most people see .co.uk, .com and .net as the three "trusted" domains (you can buy, ie .org for example you can't). I'd stay away from things like .me.uk and possibly even .eu (which I think is really expensive anyway).

What you could always do however is get the .com/.co.uk/.net of your web name and point it to the same website. :) If I'd had the choice I would have chosen both the .com and .co.uk of my domain and pointed them both at my site.

I'm really still in that leaning stage of "photogrtaph absolutely anything!"

My interest and passion seems to be moving towards people/portrait but I do love macro and landscape too.

Thanks for your help Amp, esp re the endings, pretty much summed up what I was thinking re the "trusted three".

I thought about that one.

I'm not sure I like "photog" as a word. It feels incomplete. (maybe a silly view  ) Also, i can envisage people asking why its photo G.

Maybe its me being too picky!

my-weebly-photos.co.uk

If it's personal does it really need your name/initials in the domain?

Where does weebly come from anyway?

Edit: just seen that you have used Weebly to make a site. So maybe that suggestion wouldn't work.

how about rob-marsh.co.uk??

marsh-photography is available in all its forms

or..

PhileasTog

or..

efstop.co.uk

I like Phileastog, nice play there!

I have an unfortunate surname I feel, and marsh-photography sounds to me like I photograph swamps! Again, too picky perhaps!

Also, who is best to register domains through?

Do you have a middle name?

I think, at the moment, I am looking at robmarshphotography with a .co.uk and .com ending.

Unless other feel that that is too long winded.

That's what I would go for... but had already been mentioned. .co.uk is cheaper!

I guess I don't need .com really. So Fair point.

Carl, are you changing as you don't like your, or have had issues with it being long winded?

Personally, I'd go with robmarshphotography too (if I were Rob Marsh!). The two syllable name is perfect and it's not too long given its obvious advantages.

I'd still take both. For the limited cost you can point the second to your site, or use it as the address for a separate gallery hosting site that can be integrated into your co.uk address (e.g. with Zenfolio). If you plan on making money with photography, you'll regret not taking it at some point if someone else does...

You only need .com if your going international really. I registered gordonscottphotography.co.uk earlier this week. It gets your name out there a bit more, even if a little long winded.

Fair point although with the gallery hosting and integration your heading down an unknown path for me at the moment!

I just went to 123 reg to take a look and £25 gets me both for 2 years.

Its suggested alternatives were

pilagerobmarsh

burglarizerob

stealrobmarshphotos

!! what the?!

I disagree you really should get the .com and .co.uk as if not one of your competitors could buy it and point it directly to their own website. I often forget when typing url's if they are .com or .co.uk and i'm sure others do this too and end up at a site they didn't intend visiting usually with the same theme of business.

To be honest at under £30 for 2 years I prob will. I'm not intending on going pro, but it gives me a safeguard should I go down that route.

I go with them too but their alternative suggestions always puzzle me, for some reason they always seem to include henry in at least one suggestion

robmarsh-photography breaks it up a bit.

You have inspired me into sorting my domain out now. Looking for some cheap hosting or virtual servers now.

glad I could help! I am so new to this website making building hosting lark its a joke!

I am really blundering through blind. I am using Weebly to create and host at the moment, its limiting in layous, but as I have 0 knowledge of websites it'll do for kow.

Virtual servers?! Gesundheit!

there are a couple of marshland derivatives available...

Am I lead to believe that wed hosting is paying for storage/servers that you the upload your website to and your domain then points too?

Do I need hosting as well as registered domain? CGeezer that link looks like a good deal, too good almost.
