Lovely action shots with great captures and composition. The white on white seems to be a bit of a problem. I prefer #1 which brings back memories of my cricketing days.

First 2 are a little oversize for the forum limit of 800 pixels. Can you resize them please.

I've managed to get a shot of the bales flying but it is not as good as your first one here!

Exif is in the pictures. The noise in #2 particularly is surprising for 200 iso. was it under exposed and brightened up in processing?

Welcome to the forums.

Hi Graham and welcome to TP :)

I've just been asked to cover a cricket match in a few weeks time.. If I manage to capture anything like these then I'll be well chuffed!
Nice little set there mate..
What size lens are you using?

The problem with photographing cricket is that theres only a few shots you can take all day that are different.. especially one day or test cricket.. you might have to take a thousand shots to finally get the bails in the air..

20/20 cricket is perfect for photography. colourfull and lots more happening with big hitters and all the catches and stumps flying on around 90 minutes :)

www.cricketpics.co.uk the 20/20 ones are best

Hello all and thanks for the input

Russ, thank's for the comments, Yes exposure can be tricky perticurlaly when the sun gets out.

Robert, Sorry for the oversizing I will try to remember to resize next time. Yes #1 & 2 are a little noisy as the pitch I shot on was Huge and so they are pulled to some extent :(

Trev, thanks for the comments,. Have fun with the game:). Watch your exposure as it can change quite a bit during a match. I shoot with a 300mm but this is way too short for a lot of the pitches I cover, You can get away with it, though you may need to pull the shots for close ups, (even more reason to nail the exposure!!). I tend to sit behind one of the wickets and off about 8/10m to the same side as the bowler if fast, if a spin bowler then i tend to sit on the other side as ther is usually a fielder there. For batters it's the same principle depending on if ther L or R handed.Don't be statick though!, move to the other side for usually a different bowler, also shoot from the side a little #3 was side on & i think it works!. Look forward to viewing your pics :)

K1pax, Yes i agree it can be very tedious at times, I have been fortunate in my bowled wickets, most games I tend to shoot around 200 pics (i'm only there a couple of hours) because like you said you have most of the shots in the bag by then!
Kind regards Graham.

I love 1 & 2. If I had to find something wrong with them I'd say you were the wrong side cos they're right handers. I wish I'd taken them :)

Thanks for the look in Tiger! your right I was on the wrong side but as the bowler bowled (spinner),on the right, & they put fielders (short leg) + (silly mid on), I thought i had a good chance of capturing something on that side. Kind regards Graham.

Excelent action shots Graham, thanks for all the info on the best method/positions for photographing. (y)

Very nicely composed shots mate :D How crazy is the batsman in #1 though. I would never go in without a helmet in my cricketing days!

Anthony, thanks for the feedback & your most welcome for the info!, "find out and pass it on" is what i think! :).
Romper, thanks for the kind words :), I think he only took off his helmet because he faced a spin bowler!!. But like you I'd still rather have it on :O lol. Kind regards Graham
