I am in the process of building up my business. Have been trying to tap into the baby, mummy, family area as think thats where I am best and having a nine month old myself know how treasured those early ages are photograph.

I recently did a shoot for a family, daughter ages eight and a half months. This was only my second booking for someone who isnt a friend. These are a few of the pictures from the shoot - constructive critique please as am keen to learn from any mistakes I may be making.

The last image is more what I'd be aiming for, the light is better suited for such a delicate subject. Just a general thing, I feel like the dog draws my attention away from the baby.

I think the pp has done that to it as it more of an ageing effect. It was a preset on Lightroom thought it looked ok but maybe you've picked up on something that I haven't noticed.

I will upload an unedited picture for comparison but will need to get it off my external hard drive , might not be this evening but tomorrow definitely.

The background in all images are distracting for me, but marts_uk mentioned about the noise which is also an issue. But on a positive side, you have caught nice candid moments from the baby. Good effort.

Good effort - natural looking set - just find the doorway a bit distracting. Not that I'm saying they would look better on a plain white sheet, maybe just something a little plainer? Good shots though - bet the parents are pleased :)

Welldone on the shoot, i think you have captured some lovely images the parents will love.

In my opinion im not keen on the processing its slightly too noisy and a bit dark for me.

As mentioned before the background does distract so finding a plain background or something with context like a toy chest or nice wooden toys may have added to the shot.

In the shots with the dog i kind of feel bad that the dogs ear is being pulled but maybe in the dog were facing in the general direction of the camera that would be better.

I completely appreciate when you get into the room and start interacting with the baby all background related issues drop from your mind (in my case they do lol) but ive taught myself to really look around for distractions inparticular drain pipes when im out and about lol

Welldone again for the shoot, i bet your itching to get out and do more now :)

Far too noisy and generally lacking contrast and punch. Its hard to tell its a dog (or what part) in some. The last is better but needs to be cropped to remove wall.

I'm sure the parents like the set, but technically they're not good IMHO.

They lack contrast, are very noisy and the lighting is variable at best.

They also don't look completely sharp to me, though I'm viewing on a cheapo monitor so I'm happy to be shot down on that one.

As I said the parents will probably love them, but they don't tick many boxes technically for me.
