Yep, same here. Friends and family invariably say everything is superb even when you know it isn't.

Yeah, that's the feedback to listen to....

I'll bin a pic for 1 eye being sliiightly OOF at 1.8 and get funny looks off of family. Probably been on here way too long lol

I do feel a bit guilty when friends/relations send me new baby pics and the first thing i notice is usually a cluttered b'ground, oof eyes, and bad exposure before looking at the baby lol :) Yip, been here too long :) Its a hobby (or job) for perfectionists IMO....

Somebody with a good artistic eye to offer a different view point.

People with more photographic knowledge may only suggest a different exposure setting, aperture etc,. whereas that could be less important artistically.

See it a lot on critique sections where an image is good to me just because it is yet a techy photographer would point out that an area is not as sharp as it could be. That may not be important to a lot of people who like the image...

Some of the best critique I have had has been from camera club judges, but you'd expect good critique in that arena. Also from my lecturer when I was at nightschool, but again you'd expect that from a former pro with a photography degree. Some of the critique on here is good, some not so good.

any one who views it, everyones eyes are different and see different thing in photos, may not be always looking for the same thing

Before I retired it was the clients who mattered most. Now I listen to any constructive comments.

I think anyones viewpoint which differs from my own is constructive critique. I don't believe they need to be togs to say what they see as being good or not.

I value almost all critique as people's opinions differ so much, mainly on here though, especially from specialists in the field of the photo they are critiquing

I find I'm more and more critical of myself the more shots I take and the more experience I have.
I look for advice from Flickr contacts who are much better photographers, who tend to give unbiased help.

I think everyone's opinion is a valid one, and for me I like the technical critique from other photographers and the honest 'like it or not' reaction from everyone. :)

That said, after awhile, especially if you are showing lots of images, friends and family can become numb to them, and everything becomes 'good or nice' imho. That happens quicker the less interest they have in photography or images in general.

Occasionally I'm unsure about a crop, a composition choice or new technique and I'll post some images for critique here. And here rather than anywhere else. ;)

I also like posting (what I think are) some of my best images on 500px and seeing the reaction they get, or not, :( and while it's starting to become a popularity thing like Flickr, you can't beat letting the people vote, comment, or not, :( as way to see what people think of the images.

I'm usually the only one looking at my photos so just my own critique is what I get. I'd love to get 'technical' opinions about settings and equipment but surely a photo is a piece of art and some will like it and others won't, with regards to composition I mean.
