Crop Conundrum For Wedding

This is half business (wedding) and half equipment related so mods please feel free to move at will.

I'm settled on the notion of shooting with two bodies and two primes for my upcoming weddings.

Ideally I'd be using two full frame bodies with at 35 1.4 on one and an 85 1.8 on the other.

I've got a 5D MKII however, as it stands, funds won't stretch to another FF body so instead of the 35 1.4 on FF will a rented 24 1.4 on a crop body give the same field of view for group/wide-ish shots?

Obviously I'd lean toward the FF body for indoor shots where possible as noise is obviously the compromise here.

Any help would be great as my head is battered

In all honesty I don't know if it's as important as you think. It's easy to get bogged down in gear decisions!

There are very good photographers who do not use full frame body's at all.

For what it's worth I think the 24 would be wasted on a crop body and might cause more distortion than I would personally like. Not using, say and 85, on the crop would be a shame. It gives you hay bit more reach. Why not use it's strengths rather than mess around with its weaknesses?

Indoor groups will always be the worst part of my day.

Do you still have a 24-70 zoom? (I get lost with who is switching to what gear) throw it in the bag - use it for the groups in you need to.

What I'm looking at gear-wise is my 5DII, 85 1.8, Crop Body and a mystery rented lens.

I did rent a 24-70 for a christening I did recently and really enjoyed using it. I've kinda made my mind up that I want to use primes from now on (which I know makes things so much more complicated).

You're right though, I'm going to try not to get hung up on gear and I'll more than likely end up with a 85 1.8 & 35 1.4 combo and just see what works out best through testing before the weddings kick in.

In an ideal world I go out and get two 5D3's but I don't think the kids would take too kindly to going without food and clothes for a few months

That's more or less exactly the kinda setup I'm looking to build eventually - it's just all about compromises at the minute.
