Hi. Do I apply the crop factor when using a DX lens on my D300?

what do you mean ? every lens mm are as they are. 80mm for medium format is pretty wide, full frame ok, crop - tele .

Yes, you do.

Regardless of whether a lens is designed for DX or FX, on a D300 you would still multiply by 1.5 to get the 35mm equivalent field of view.

200mm DX == On a DX body, the same field of view as a 300mm on a 35mm body.
200mm FX == On a DX body, the same field of view as a 300mm on a 35mm body.

you don,t have to physically apply it is what i meant .what you see in your viewfinder is what you get. hth mike:thumbs: hence the link to crop factor explained

What you see in your viewfinder is what you get regardless of what lens you use, but there are those out there that think the focal length noted on DX lenses is what it's equivalent to in terms of 35mm FOV.

They don't realise that a 200mm lens is 200mm regardless of whether it's FX or DX.

Thanks all is clear now.
