Crop ratio

Bit of a quick one,

I took a shed load of pictures at a wedding reception and evening do yesterday for a friend. Now should I maintain a certain ratio when cropping? maybe 5x7? I'm thinking that if I give them out to people and they get them printed it wont cut parts out.

Thanks

I had a problem with this when I shot my friends wedding , processed all to 8x10 ( I did this as it was ideal size for there album.) Also told him if he wanted any prints to let me know and I'd get them all done in one go and ensure that ratio's were correct etc. What does he do , goes down to the local Asda and has them printed at 6x4 . Then says that they have heads cut off etc . All because they thought that I was after making a quick buck out of them  . I also was very displeased as it made me look incompitent .

i guess this was not using the 40d as a straight out pic croped to 6x4 fits the hole pic spot on.

Yeh 40D , as I said only cropped to that size as it was appropriate for their album how they wanted to lay them out , just never bothered listening to me though when it came to the printing . I tried to reason with them , but hey I just did what they wanted me to do and they we're adament on getting the prints done themselves .

As has already been demonstrated in this thread, unless you know what size prints your friend intends to have done, you have no idea what ratio to crop the images to.

sorry will learn to read, didnt see the 8x10 bit no wonder the cut bits off.

Fair point on not knowing what they will want. I was just thinking along the lines of when I want to get rid of part of an image such as a hand or something on the side of the shot.
