new to this,I bought a lens turns out not to be the wrong lens for me (canon 85mm 1.8 (this is not a selling thread so please don't post asking to buy or pm me abut buying,as this is not the ight place so will go unanswered)so am going to sell it but I know people ask for a 100% shot,I've tried and just cant do it,I have a canon 40d with the only PP software that came with the camera ie the canon suite of stuff so if anyone could talk me though it thtat would be good,I can get a 100% view and voom in but I try and save it but it just saves the full size pic? and also as anyone that has sold a lens will know,a phot it expected to be shown from the lens, what are the best settings to show the lens at its best,as my shot I think is not the best to tell the quality of the lens ie settings and I think even the lighting I got wrong so didn't help the shot, this is the shot I used so any cc on it would be good,cheers.http://

Ok take your shot then load it into your imaging software, depending on your camera your picture is likely to be 5000x3000 pixels. Now most places you are limited to displaying about 800x600 say, so using the crop tool select part of your image that is 800x600 or whatever and save that part of the image. That is your 100% as each pixel in the image ie 800's worth is shown as 800. Hope that helps

I do it a different way. Zoom in to 100% and make a mental note of what you see in the frame. The zoom back out and crop to what you saw at 100%. Easy.
When you zoom to 100% on the crop you made, it shouldnt zoom any more, so you know you've got it right.

The 85mm is a low light, or wide aperture portrait lens really, so to show what it can do, shoot some portraits at f/1.8.

cheers,

I gave Tom's method a go (cheers Tom) and came up with this, does it look like a 100% crop?http://
