Looking to get a new strap for my D40. Looking into the Crumpler Industry Disgrace. Anyone got it? Anyone recommend any others I should consider?

I got mine off eBay from Singapore. Came through quite quickly too.

They have a few stores round the UK now and a website (http://www.crumpler.co.uk). Can't see the Industry Disgrace on it but they have one called the Singapore Sling listed as a new product.
 
The photos of the Singapore Sling look different to my Industry Disgrace, although there are similarities in the design. I guess it may be a newer replacement for it.

I've had my strap for around six months and love it. By the time I load up my 7d with the battery grip and lens it weighs around 2Kg and was uncomfortable with the Canon strap after long periods. I've been out all day with the Crumpler one and not noticed the weight of the camera.

Try an R strap, they are fantastic...
 
I picked up a Singapore sling in NY in November for my 500D and its infinitely more comfortable than the oem canon one and the padded area clings to your shoulder better than the oem one if you're just carrying it on the one side.

That's about all I can say about that :lol:
 
The Singapore Sling is the newer version, adds a wee removable card pouch and detachable connectors.
 
It doesn't appear to have easy release connectors so I'd go for something else
 
I'd guess the name is a deliberate reference to the cheap and nasty straps that the manufacturers ship with their cameras.
 
How are you getting on with the D40 James? Apart from wanting a better strap :lol:

I'm still on auto mode at the moment lol Slowly working it out! I've not even used the Nikon strap. Spoke to a friend who's got a Sony and he told me to just go after Market lol.



Is quick release really needed? I'm new to all this :lol:

Not really it just makes it easier to swap between other straps or even lose the strap altogether and go with my preferred option of really short strap (ie no strap attached to the connectors - just them connected to each other)
 
Just looked at the Singapore Sling, part that goes around the neck is really wide.
Its probably comfortable though. Might be over kill for your kit though as yours is nice and light.

Quick release - I don't think it would be a necessity for you.
A R strap is over kill maybe a cheaper ebay copy would be OK though if you want quick release.

Ill have a look around.
Its a shame SmugMug are not doing a free strap anymore (you only get it now if you subscribe) would have been perfect for you.

That's what I thought too. I have always thought of Crumpler as good so the thread title really got my attention. :eek:
 
i bought the singapore sling about 4 months ago, its absolutely brilliant!!
i use it with a gripped 5od and i can honestly say i can use my camera all day long and not feel the weight of it!
it is slightly wider than most straps but it's very comfortable to wear as its very well padded.
i got mine from the crumpler store on the strand and they had a few colours in stock to choose from, slightly expensive but worth every penny in my honest opinion
